Fort Shafter Army Real Estate

Fort Shafter was established by the Army June 22, 1907 and is the oldest military base in Hawaii. Named after Major General William Rufus Shafter who led the United States expedition to Cuba in 1898. The location was named U.S. Army Pacific in 1947 and continues to remain the senior Army headquarters of the Asia Pacific region. After the Headquarters was eliminated in 1974 it gained the U.S. Army Support Command Hawaii, as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Pacific Ocean Division. As Headquarters of the United States Army Pacific Fort Shafter Commands Army forces throughout The Asia-Pacific excluding Korea and is station to 7,897 active duty service members and just over 8,000 civilians.

Neighboring communities to Schofield Barracks, Fort Shafter are Wahiawa, Mililani, and Pearl City.


Wahiawa is situated in the island's central valley between the Wai'anae Mountains and Ko'olau Mountains, is surrounded almost entirely by Lake Wilson (the second largest reservoir in Hawaii), and is a near 4 miles from Schofield Barracks and 30 minutes from downtown Honolulu. This residential area offers  a variety of apartments, condominiums, houses and townhomes averaging around $515,000. The community in the Wahiawa area is a blend of military personnel, local family, and single households. The area is made up of houses and townhomes with the average home value of just under $740,000 and is primarily local residents, working professionals, and active Military families. Kaneohe offers dining and shopping along the Kamehameha Highway at the town’s center and is known for the Windward Mall, Heeia State Park, Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden, and the Friendship Garden and The Valley of The Temples.
